The presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Isaac Ositelu, on Monday promised to ensure self-sufficiency in food production if elected in the 2019 elections.
In a statement, Ositelu said he would turn Nigeria to the food basket of West Africa during his tenure as President.
He said apart from ensuring self-sufficiency for local consumption, the nation under his watch would also embark on export of food crops to countries in the sub-region.
He said, “Nigeria is blessed with very resourceful and enterprising population, excellent weather and expansive land good enough for large-scale food production.
“The nation’s tertiary institutions, particularly the universities of agriculture and the relevant stakeholders in the agricultural value chain as well as financial institutions would be networked to form a coalition of support system in the sector.”
Ositelu said his administration would banish hunger from the country.
He urged Nigerians to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party during the elections.
He claimed that the candidates of the two main parties were part of the problems currently facing the country.
“Political leadership of Nigeria needs a break away from the old order that plunged the country into the abyss of low self-esteem, hunger, disease and backwardness as a nation.
“The recent rating of Nigeria as the poverty capital of the world and its latest ranking as the third most terrorised nation of the world are demeaning for the potential and the huge image of Nigeria as a nation,” he added.Ositelu said if voted as the next President, he would embark on economic rejuvenation that would bring prosperity to all parts of the country.
He said the economic blueprint of his party would focus on youths empowerment.
